Getting started

Search your library

What search covers

Search results split into two groups: Documents, matched by title, and Found in content, matched against the actual text of a document. A content result shows the page it came from and highlights the matching passage, so tapping it opens the editor directly at that page.

By default search covers your whole library, but you can narrow it to a single collection first, which helps when a term is common across many documents and you only care about the ones on a particular subject.

How the index works

Behind the scenes, Colophon extracts each document's text, recognizing it with OCR first if the page is a scanned image, and builds a local, on-device index it can search instantly. Nothing about that index, or the text it's built from, ever leaves your device.
