Getting started

Bookmarks and outline

Adding bookmarks

Documents that arrive with a table of contents show it in the Read inspector, with the row for the page you're on highlighted as you read. To add your own, choose Add bookmark there and name the current page — it joins the outline at once, and undo takes it straight back out.

Renaming bookmarks

Long-press any row and choose Rename to retitle it in place. Renaming never moves the row or changes where it points, only what it says.

Deleting bookmarks

Long-press a row and choose Delete to remove it. Deleting a section takes its subsections with it, so Colophon confirms first and states exactly how many go along — a section with no subsections deletes outright. Like every bookmark edit, a delete is undoable, and locked documents can't be edited at all. If bookmark editing isn't offered on your device, the inspector says so instead of letting you author bookmarks it couldn't save.
